Why We Started

It was 2012. Sourav's sister was getting married, and the family was doing the rounds of jewellery stores in search of something simple — elegant everyday pieces for a young, modern woman. What they found instead were heavy occasion pieces, designed for lockers, not for life. Designs built for weddings, not for wearing to work.

Then came the second problem: every time they asked the price of a piece, the salesman would pull out a calculator. The price wasn't on the tag. It wasn't online. It was a negotiation. In an era when India was buying everything online — transparently, without pressure — jewellery remained stubbornly opaque.

And when they asked for certification, most stores either didn't have it, or handed over their own store-issued certificate. "Like certifying your own goods," as Sourav puts it. Meaningless.

"The gap was clear. The problems were real. And nobody else was solving it — so I thought I'd just explore."

In December 2013, KuberBox launched — a fine jewellery brand built on three principles that nobody else was offering: transparent pricing, third-party certified quality, and designs made for everyday life.


The Pendant That Proved Everything

In the early days, Sourav's then-girlfriend (now wife) wanted a name pendant she'd seen on Jacqueline Fernandez in a film. With the beautiful ignorance of someone who knew nothing about the industry, he decided to make it. He documented the entire process — design, materials, craftsmanship, pricing — and published it as a blog post.

Thousands of inquiries followed. Real people. Real orders. Real business. That blog post became a signal that changed everything: India was desperate for a brand that could do customisation well — predictably, transparently, with honest pricing and real support through every step.

Most jewellery brands chase the same categories — engagement rings, bridal sets, occasion jewellery. KuberBox went deep into the categories everyone else ignored: nose pins, septum rings, cartilage piercings, ear studs, men's cufflinks and studs.

This wasn't accidental. We noticed that a new generation of Indians was using jewellery to express identity — not just mark occasions. Men were wearing ear studs. Women were exploring multi-piercing, septum, helix, cartilage. And nobody in the fine jewellery space was speaking to them.

Over 13 years, we've built something competitors genuinely cannot copy: deep expertise in piercing jewellery. We understand gauge, inner diameter, closure types, healing considerations. Sourav grew up in a traditional Marwari business family in Jharkhand, but his path has been anything but conventional. Boarding schools across Raipur, Panchgani and Vizag; engineering at SRM Chennai; a stint at BYJU's; and then the decision to pass up MBA offers and instead take a professional diamond course before launching KuberBox at 22.

He had already founded and sold a niche e-commerce startup (Printbooth.in) while in college. With KuberBox, he brought technology-driven thinking to an industry that had never seen it — CAD design, transparent pricing engines, digital-first customer service, and a relentless focus on building the piercing jewellery category from scratch in India.

At KuberBox, Sourav leads product, marketing, technology, and merchandising. He is also a published author — his book Become a Jewellery Entrepreneur, co-authored with Chantelle Lobo, is available on Amazon Kindle and has helped hundreds of aspiring jewellery entrepreneurs enter the industry.

Ashish brings to KuberBox what most jewellery brands never have: institutional-grade financial rigour and strategic discipline. A Chartered Accountant by training, he spent his career at the high-pressure intersection of finance and strategy — from audit of large listed entities, to leading finance functions at startups, to playing a pivotal role in a $30 million acquisition.

Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff & Corporate Strategy to a Chairman, spearheading M&A, special projects, and group-level profitability initiatives. He brings a rare ability to build financial systems from the ground up, drive business outcomes across the full lifecycle — from acquisition and growth to exit — and translate complex strategy into operational execution.

At KuberBox, Ashish leads sales, customer support, operations, and finance. In Sourav's words: "Ashish is the fuel that puts new energy into the business. He comes with out-of-industry perspectives, pushes us further than we'd push ourselves, and is the primary reason we are growing better today than we ever have."
